Special Committees

There are several standing committees in our parish that coordinate the many logistics involved in maintaining a vibrant community and beautiful facilities. New members are always most welcome.

Renovation Committee

Father Evans convened a committee in September, 2006, to assess the need for interior restoration and renewal of St. Julia Church. Planning and prioritization of the specific elements of the proposed interior renovation were proposed which reflect the liturgical guidelines set forth in the National Conference of Catholic Bishops’ document, Built of Living Stones. The interior of the church has not been renewed appreciably since the addition in 1961, and there is much that needs to be refreshed, as well as liturgically renewed, with respect to the sanctuary, the gathering place at the rear of the church and the interior finishes. Improvements to the lighting inside the church and to the sound system are especially needed. Refurbishing the pews and kneelers, and adding air conditioning were also recommended.

Exterior repairs and renovations are part of the plan, and have been specifically identified in a report by an engineering firm completed in February, 2007. This report was commissioned after we found leaking in the rear vestibule and in the sacristy. The repairs listed in this report were recommended for immediate attention before further, more costly deterioration were to occur.

The Renovation Committee hired Martin Dermady as the architect who has spearheaded the design plan for the interior and exterior renovations.  Feedback from the parish was sought after various junctures in the planning process.  The Capital Campaign for the renovation of St. Julia Church, “Our Faith, Our Future” was begun in 2010.  The Town of Weston approved the plans in August, 2011, and granted building permits shortly thereafter.  The Santini Corporation was selected as the construction contractor.  Construction began in September, 2011, and is expected to be complete by the Spring of 2012.  All Weston Masses, Sacraments and Devotions will be held in the Parish Center until the renovation is complete.

Progress on the renovation project can be followed on our Renovation Blog.

Gardening Committee

Beautiful surroundings enhance the overall experience our parishioners enjoy when they come to Mass and other events in our parish. With churches in Weston and Lincoln there is always ongoing planning and caring for the grounds. We gather in the spring to plant around the churches, over the summer to water and tend the gardens, and in the fall to plant and prepare the beds for winter. If you have time, talent, or treasure to help us in this effort, please contact Janice Carroll Hammond (St. Julia Church) or Sylvia Kennedy (St. Joseph Church).  Many hands make light work – and pleasant company!
